As a Pilates teacher, it’s easy to get caught up in holding space for others but nothing replaces the magic of coming back to my own practice.

Every time I am in my own practice, I reconnect with the work on a deeper level. It keeps my body strong and balanced, but even more than that, it reminds me of why I fell in love with Pilates in the first place.

I need the quiet sessions when I’m not cueing or correcting anyone, when I can fully drop into my own body, and breathe intentionally.

I notice things differently when I’m the student. I feel where I’m growing, where I’m compensating, where I need to soften or challenge myself. And that awareness directly influences how I teach.

This is where I reconnect with the details:

how I’m moving through footwork

which muscles are engaging to stabilize

how I find control in exercises like teaser, tendon stretch, snake and twist

Continually taking trainings and classes from other teachers refreshes my approach, keeps me curious and inspired, and regularly reconnects me with my love for the method— the precision, the breath, the flow, and how it makes me feel.

Staying consistent with my practice isn’t just self-care, it’s part of being a better teacher. It keeps me inspired, aligned, and grounded in the work I share with others.

That’s the magic.

That’s where I feel the work again— where I recharge and get inspired to teach from a deeper place.

Teaching is giving.

Practicing is refueling.

I need both to be a better teacher.
